The outing for our second day in Kaohsiung was to Fo Guang Shan, a Buddhist monastery and museum with massive buddhas. We spent several hours walking around, learning about various Buddhist practices and history, seeing art, and visiting different shrines.

We were given instructions to copy down mantras and meditated on them

The experience was so immersive and fascinating, and everyone was very welcoming and eager to share with their practices with us. There were ponds and flowers blooming, and were inches away from monks as they prayed.

After arriving back in Kaohsiung, we had a more traditional shave ice with taro and red bean to cool us down.

We then headed to Cijin, an island just off of Kaohsiung, by taking a 5-minute ferry. We walked along the beach and waded, and Jensen even quickly dipped in the water. The ocean was so warm, the sand was gorgeous and black, and we watched the sunset from a beachside bar.

We took the ferry back, then ate amazing beef noodle soup for dinner and delicious seasonal greens. We stopped at a tea shop for soft serve (mine was matcha and was so flavorful), and headed to bed. Cheers!
